There’s No Easy Road to Success

success-sketch

There’s no easy road to success. Well, unless you win the lottery, but I’ve heard that most of those people end up going bankrupt anyways.

I’ve had my ups and downs professionally, hopping around different fields to see what I’m best at doing. I graduated college with a degree in Recreation and Tourism, with the plan of being an event planner similar to Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner. I was going to wear cute suits, plan classy soirees and be prepared for anything. Everyone was going to love me and BEG to work with me.

Then I got a job in event planning and reality set in: this was NOT the job for me.

Less than a year later, I quit and never looked back. Since then, I’ve tried out different career paths and have finally settled on what I believe I want to do for the rest of my life: journalism and communication.

I LOVE WRITING. I might not be the best at it, but there’s always room to grow. I love Twitter, communicating with both friends and strangers about anything and everything. And did you know you could get a job in which you get to write and play on social media…and make money doing it? It’s amazing.

Today’s writing prompt inspired me to actually create an inspiration board for my career. I know what I want to do, I just have to get there. I haven’t made the board yet, but I’ll post a picture of it when I do. I know the road to being successful in this field isn’t going to be easy, and I’m okay with following that jumbled up line in the drawing above. Good things don’t come to those who wait, good things come to those who work their asses off and never give up.

Today’s Think Kit blog prompt: “What do you want your life (or your kitchen, your job, your x) to look like? Create your own inspiration board.”

Again, I didn’t really do what the prompt asked, but hey, I’ve never been one to color inside the lines.
