I’m so happy to have a new Think Kit prompt to get my creative writing juices flowing again. Here we go!
Have you accomplished goals you set out to achieve this year? How have you had to reset? What will it take to get where you need to be by the year’s end? Is there a smaller goal you could go after in the coming weeks to move forward?
While I didn’t have any concrete goals set for this year, I did have things that I wanted to change in my life. The first “goal” was the travel more, and I’ll be knocking that one out of the park. Work hard, play hard, right?
I returned from an incredibly beautiful week-long getaway to Jamaica two weeks ago for a friend’s wedding. We stayed at the gorgeous Rockhouse Hotel on the cliffs. I’m usually a budget traveler when it comes to the hotel, because who spends much time in their room anyways? But I splurged this time for a premium view that was worth every penny. We spent the week snorkeling, laying out, getting pampered in the spa, cliff-diving, indulging in tropical libations and relaxing. Not to mention we were there for a wedding with some of our best friends.
The Caribbean water was bright blue and clear, not anything like I remember it last time I was in Negril. Even though it was hot and humid (I think I sweat through every piece of clothing I brought with me on the trip) I didn’t care, I was having too much fun. And that gave us an excuse to be in the water as much as possible.
The last evening of the trip was made even better with dolphins swimming in the cove by our hotel pool, followed by a lobster dinner down the street. Two lobsters for $30? Yes please.
It was tough returning to the real world after this trip. Where was the fresh coconut water delivery each morning to our room? The reality of life quickly set back in, so the easiest way to take away the pain is by planning another trip.
To end out 2015, I have a trip to Nashville for a sorority sister’s wedding, another wedding in Florida, a visit to Denver to meet my new nephew and a weekend getaway to Arizona for ASU’s homecoming. Travel is going to continue to be a priority in my life because there’s so many places to go and things to see, I can’t sit still here in Indy!
